LEGAL RESEARCH INTERN ACCESS SCHEME

The Office of the Attorney General, the Law Reform Commission, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Chief State Solicitor’s Office are delighted to launch the Legal Research Intern Access Scheme 

Interns will gain practical experience, undertaking focused legal research work as part of a team, within one of the following; the Office of the Attorney General, the Law Reform Commission, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Chief State Solicitor’s Office. The internships will provide experience of working in a legal environment and the opportunity to gain knowledge regarding the various career paths open to law graduates, including careers in the public sector.

We hope that other public sector bodies will follow our example and would be delighted to assist any organisation that wants to replicate the model.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is recruiting Prosecutors.

Are you qualified, newly qualified, about to qualify as a Solicitor or Barrister? Are you driven and motivated to deliver a fair, independent and effective prosecution service on behalf of all the people of Ireland?  If the answer is yes to the above questions, this might just be the job for you.

Candidates must, on or before Wednesday, 28 February 2024 be enrolled as a Solicitor in the State or have been called to the Bar. Candidates must also have, experience of practice (during training or post qualification) in one or more of the following areas, Criminal Regulatory or Enforcement Law, Administrative, Constitutional or European Law, Litigation and/or litigation involving public bodies and Employment Law. A history of delivering results effectively, in particular managing their caseload. A high level of interpersonal and communication skills with an awareness of how to deal with external stakeholders. Strong analytical and decision making skills. Experience of or aptitude to work in a computerised office environment, including the use of electronic case management systems or other ICT application used for legal practice.

The Director of Public Prosecutions wishes to appoint two Counsel to prosecute in County Louth. The Director seeks expressions of interest from barristers wishing to be considered for the above role.

Candidates must also have, a minimum of 2 years’ experience of practicing as a Solicitor or Barrister in one or more of the following areas, Criminal Regulatory or Enforcement Law, Administrative, Constitutional or European Law, Litigation and/or litigation involving public bodies and Employment Law. Understanding of criminal law, the criminal justice system in Ireland: and domestic and international; prosecution principles. High Level of drive, resilience, motivation and the proven ability to deliver cases. Evidence of proactive engagement with colleagues at all levels and stakeholders across their sector to build strong professional networks. Strong analytical and decision making skills and the ability to manage a complex case load. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is recruiting a Legal & Knowledge Management Researcher.  Successful applicants must, on or before 17 October 2023, hold an honours degree (at least a Level 8 of the National Framework of Qualifications) in Law or an honors degree in another discipline plus a post graduate qualification in Law and Have demonstrable experience in conducting in-depth legal research and analysis gained either through relevant post-graduate studies or through conducting legal research and analysis in an employment or internship context.  It will be an advantage to have an extensive knowledge of Irish law and the Irish legal system along with a knowledge of EU and ECHR law, strong information technology skills, analytical and evaluative skills and techniques, good written communication skills, an ability to work independently and in a team environment and an ability to plan, prioritise and manage tasks in a systemic and organised way in order to deliver work of a high quality against tight deadlines.
